TYSON NAMED TO ANKENY FIRE DEPARTMENT. We have just
learned that Tyson Hood has hired on with the fire department in his home town. He has been training for this role
for some time, taking various courses to prepare himself. Ty, of course, has lived most of his life in Ankeny, is a
graduate of Ankeny High and knows the community well.
The job gives him an opportunity to meet his aspirations. Good
for Tyson!
Tanja's appendix removal on June 12 |
|
a successful operation. |
TANJA'S OPERATION. We are happy to report
that Tanja Cleveland's appendix removal June 12 was successful. The procedure was carried off that morning. In fact,
she was home before noon the same day. Times have changed. Nowadays, state of that art is to make little holes
in one and remove the little culprit.
Eric called to say she was doing fine. She was a bit over
booked, as they say on the Airlines. Tanja was called to do a job interview, also on June 12, but, needless to say,
the operation took precedence.
The graduates, Callie and Dani Henderson, |
|
with their parents, Ernie and Joni, on Senior Night. |
THEY SET THE BAR HIGH. We are talking
about the twins, Callie and Dani Henderson, who graduated from Jefferson High in Independence May 20. Callie was the
valedictorian (shared with three others) and save for a pair of A minuses, Dani would have been as well, a solid 4 point.
This is a tremendous accomplishment and made even more so in that they were in tough curriculums, plus numerous co-curricular
activities requiring much of their time.
Their achievement is not easy for the grandpa who edits this missive to comprehend,
for if he would have ever received an A minus, it would have constituted a high point in his high school career.
Sam Cleveland, shown with friend Scott, was |

recognized for Academic Excellence. |
EVENING OF EXCELLENCE. The place to
be in Germantown, Wisconsin, the evening of May 9, was the High School Gym, for a dinner and to be honored for excellence.
A momentous event, it included the total system, from Amy Belle and
other elemetary schools up through the middle and high schools and spoke not only to academics but also co-curricular
activities.
Sam Cleveland was present and cited for Academic Excellence, 4.0 through
three quarters in the 6th grade at Kennedy Middle School.
Nice going, Sam! We are so proud of you!
Chopping wood here, John had a special work |

experience February 13. |
JOHN'S SPECIAL CASE. John, shown above
chopping wood, had a memorable experience February 13. His schtick in the working world, of course, is that of arguing
cases in federal court. He prepares and takes them in. Sometimes, he even argues them in the U. S. Court
of Appeals, Eighth Circuit. That was his task in mid February down in St. Louis. The format in these
instances is for a three justice panel to hear the arguments, pro and con. That morning has to be memorable for
John as one of the justices was Sandra Day O'Conner, who prior to her retirement had served many years on the United States
Supreme Court.
Due to the world of cyberspace, we had the good fortune to hear those
arguments, main interest, of course, being John. We thought that he did a fine job, were impressed and proud, as well.
