This is where the Howling Coyotes live, the Lair. It lies about halfway up the mountain between the valley floor and the ridge. The view from the lair is quite nice, either looking down, up or across. During warm weather, we dine alfresco each evening, and sometimes breakfast and lunch, as well, out on the deck, with the humming birds and other feathered friends. Our nearest neighbor is a mile distant, so we can kick up our heels when we have a notion. We fly two flags, Old Glory and that of Norway.

Here you will learn a little bit about my wife Becky and me, as well as some other members of our family, from time to time. We will be mentioning our interests, what we are about and a few particulars, and use this forum so to acquire a bit of visibility.
Editorial offices of this page are located in the far reaches of northeast Iowa, roughly in the middle of what is known as the Dorchester Quadrangle in Waterloo Township of Allamakee County. It is in an area known as the driftless plain where the last glaciers to come by 10,000 years ago did not change topography significantly. Beauty is, of course, in the eyes of the beholder, and we hold that Allamakee County is easily Iowa's most beautiful. We are awed by its magnificence almost daily. The nearest town, 5 1/2 miles distant, is Dorchester, which claims about 90 souls. It was first settled in 1853 and shortly after had a log grist mill, store, blacksmith shop and a wagon shop. In a few years, it claimed 4 blacksmith shops, 2 wagon shops, produce, store, hotel, sawmill on Waterloo Creek and tailor shop. The post office was established in 1856 and, unlike the other businesses mentioned, is still in existence. |
